When Moroni first appeared to Joseph Smith he said that Joseph’s name “should be had for good and evil among all nations, kindreds, and tongues” (Joseph Smith History 1:33). That prophecy has come to pass. Joseph is praised and loved, slandered and belittled throughout the world.

Most of the negative material is written by those who never knew him (and who often pay no

price in studying his life). My fascination with They Knew the Prophet comes from being able to learn from those who knew Joseph on a personal, day-to-day basis. Their testimonies shout with a thousand trumps above those who wallow in ignorance and false claims.

The book is filled with dozens of stories written by people who interacted with Joseph and discovered his tenderness, warmth and faith. Most accounts are short enough to leave you wanting to read “just one more” before closing the book for the day.

They Knew the Prophet  provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the man, the prophet and the seer. It will increase your love and testimony of Joseph Smith. It did for me.
